iPhone 3G on VirtualBox 1.6.2 fails (error code 0xE8000035)

Post by manu »

Hi,

I bought my iPhone 3G today and it won't connect to iTunes in Windows (on a Fedora 9 host) complaining with an error code 0xE8000035

Other USB devices connect perfectly (and even a 2nd generation nano works perfectly with iTunes) but the iPhone 3G doesn't.

Is there any planned schedule for a fix? Seems like it's a problem which has been quite a long time around.

Thanks in advance for your replies,

Manuel

I am having the same issue here. Still trying to find a solution because I really do not want to go back to Windows just for this. I think I would rather take this iPhone back than deal with Windows.

Having the same issue with Iphone 3G and virtualbox 1.5.6. Was going to upgrade, but after seeing the posts, not sure if it would make a difference.

Itunes won't recognize the Iphone. It gives an error saying that itunes could not connect to the phone b/c an unknown error 0xE8000035 has occurred.

I have the phone plugged straight into a usb port (no hub)

Running ubuntu hardy 8.04

Same here, with an iPod Touch (FW 1.1.3) host OpenSuSe Linux 10.2, VirtualBox 1.6.2 and guest Windows XP SP2.

Any estimate on a fix?

Edit: I posted a Ticket on the Trac: http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/1838

I'd love to find out if I'm wrong here...

But if I recall correctly, virtualbox doesn't support iphones at all.

I went through all kinds of hoops a while ago trying to get my iphone to connect with my windows guest on a linux host. In the end I found out that the USB service on a virtualbox guest simply won't connect to the iphone at all, under any circumstance.

I really needed both a windows OS and iphone interoperability. So, I considered switching to VMware. But they don't have support for the iPhone either.

At the moment, I'm using my 2G iphone, with firmware 1.1.4, without iTunes at all. I managed to sync the playlists wirelessly with amarok and ubuntu (after much pain). But I'm not holding my breath for iphone support in virtuabox.

Of course, I really hope that I'm wrong here, and that someone has found a way.

cheers

Well, as far as I know some friends of mine are using VBox to sync their iPhones, I hoped that this gets fixed sooner or later ^^

Hi... can you confirm this? If true, can you tell us what host OS they're using? Thanks in advance!

iphone does work on vmware

Post by manu »

The iPhone 3G works perfectly on vmware player 6.0.3, but I'm willing to stay with virtualbox so I hope this gets solved soon.

The fact that it works with vmware means that there is indeed a way to make an iPhone work on a Linux host!

Thank you, Snyke, for filling the ticket

iPhone 3G with VirtualBox

Post by wombi1973 »

Hi all,

yes...am having exactly the same problem here too. I am running openSUSE 11.0 and my VirtualBox guest OS is WinXP/SP2. All other USB devices, including my iPod work without a problem...but as soon as I pluf in the iPhone, XP itself recognises it, but iTunes comes up with the "unknown error" popup.

After only running linux for the past 12 years or so...I do not want to have to resort to going to windows just for this...and dual boot is too much of a hassle.

Would appreciate any feedback on how/when this issue could be fixed !

cheers,

Kristian.

Follow this link and re-compile your kernel to allow access.

Or try this:
For anyone else having this trouble, I followed the following advice:

Quote:
OK, was a piece of work but I got it now.

http://www.speedshare.org/download.php?id=1A5FEE2413 ( I hope its legal to post it here ) is a usbcore.ko module for Ubuntu linux-image-2.6.24-21-generic.

Go to /lib/modules/2.6.24-21-generic/kernel/drivers/usb/core, backup your current module, get mine, put it there, run "depmod -ae", run "update-initramfs -u" and reboot. Everything as root ( use sudo ).
My iPod Touch 2.1 works perfectly with Ubuntu Hardy running Windows XP SP2 with iTunes 8.

I didn't even have to recompile.
