Install Client from USB

Post by micksuley »

Is it possible to install a client from a USB stick? I have found a few posts on line which say it can be done but they are pretty old and do not work when I try them. Alternatively is it possible to install from an ISO file on the host machine?

I am running VB 5.1.0 r108711 on Linux Mint 18 and want to install a few different Linux clients.

Thanks
Mick

USB booting is not supported yet[1]. Yes, there are workarounds. But, since you asked, ISO booting is the preferred way of booting. Just point the virtual CD to your ISO image. Done.

[1] : The release notes for 5.1.0 however mention the following (haven't tried it yet):
  • EFI: many improvements, for example allow to boot from USB

Yeah, I wish that too. But then I found the User Manual. Invaluable resource! Much better than any online tutorial, blog or video ;)
