Which version to update

Post by nics »

Currently running v5.0.24, no problems at all, and received a pop-up that v5.0.26-108824 has been released, dated Jul 18, 2016.
Then found v5.1 and that was released Jul 12, 2016.

An older version released after a newer version, which should I use?

Thanks

It's not quite an older vs a newer version; it's a 5.0.x tree vs a 5.1.x tree.
• 5.1.0 is quite new and as a .0 version there are always kinks and bugs that have to be ironed out.
• 5.0.26 is a quite stable release with minor fixes.
If you don't really need the new features of the 5.1.x release, I would stick with 5.0.26. But it's up to you really. I'm actually the adventurous type and I'm on the Development Snapshots, which are cutting edge versions, updated almost every two days. Think of them as pre-5.1.2.

Thanks socratis, I'll therefore see 5.1.x as a "beta" and wait for stable release.
Actually very neat that you're adventurous because it paves the way for users like me

I wouldn't characterize the 5.1.x series as a beta. Just a parallel branch with a whole lot new features, which might have some kinks (since they are new). The bug fixes for the 5.0.x series are happening in parallel with the 5.1.x series. Sometimes even the 4.3.x series. There are seasoned users around here who are using even older versions, using the motto "If it ain't broken, don't fix it". ;)
