win2k install keeps repeating the install, and won't finish.

I have used win2k for many years, and want to run it in my Linux Mint 18 on a Dell m6300 laptop.
Their software repository gave me version 5.0.18, not the latest, but should not be a problem.
But... win2k installs up to the point where re-boot occurs, and then it trys to install all over again, when usually it will then boot to the actual win2k installation. Usually, I do not have to remove the cd during re-boot, and the screen says, "press any key to boot from cd". Even when I try to remove it (very quickly, since this vm runs faster than the native installation), it will still prompt for the cd and proceed into a "new" install.
Fit to be tied.... has this happened to anyone else?
Thanks.

Remove the installation media from the vm. Exactly the same thing would happen if you left the CD in a physical machine and it booted from it.

It kind of is. In these forums we only support the official VirtualBox. So, uninstall the forked version, download the appropriate version for your distro and then we can proceed with helping you.

Over the years, I had left the cd in, and the only time it would boot from it is if you hit a key... (as instructed). I tried to quickly remove it only on the off chance the vm would treat it differently.

Forked version ???? is there such a thing?
I just un-installed it (an easy job using the repository, and impossible job if installed any other way), and now I will get the latest from your site.
Thanks for lightning fast responses you guys... 2 replies in 2 minutes... WOW!

I have removed the older VB and installed ver 5.0.24, deleted the old vm, setup a new vm, ran the win2k install disk, and the result is the same as before. Install progresses fine till the second re-boot, where it insists upon reading the cd again, only to initiate a brand new install.
I cannot get it to actually finish installing.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks,
Charles

Did you read the troubleshooting section of the VirtualBox manuals with deals with problems installing Windows 2000 specifically?
