I did a search before posting this new thread and found a close, but not an exact issue with the problem I am having. I do not want to modify anything unless it is very similar to what I will describe. Since it is my first post, I cannot place any links...
Synopsis: After using the Update Manager to complete some updates, it is no longer possible to access Windows-7.
Description: I needed to upgrade some packages, and unfortunately, I did not notice that Virtualbox would get caught in the upgrade.
Virtualbox was working fine since its installation roughly 2 years ago. The machine is the same, still running Linux Mint 17 (the original 17 release). The only recent change was the upgrade. Virtualbox upgraded from 4.3.10-dfsg-1 to 4.3.36-dfsg+deb8ubuntu1.14.04.1. Support files also got upgraded: virtualbox-guest-dkms, virtualbox-guest-utils, and virtualbox-guest-x11.
What happens when I attempt to start the Virtualbox is the following: Windows-7 has an aborted logo in Virtualbox. When attempting to start it, Windows does seem to want to start, and it asks if it should start normally or in startup repair. I tried both options, unsuccessfully. I can see the Windows 7 statup screen and it almost gets to the login screen when it aborts, which is a few seconds after selecting one of the options. That is as far as it ever goes since the upgrade.
I hope someone can help me to resolve this issue. If needed, I would love to fully revert to the previous version which I was happy with.
Thanks,
Virtibert
