Failing to export appliance

Hello Everyone,
Just call me Linux stupid. I have no idea what I am doing on this OS. But... I have a problem, and needing help!

Trying to export an appliance. Getting the error:

Failed to export appliance

File not accessible or erroneous file contents

Result code: VBOX_E_FILE_ERROR (0x80BB0004)
Component: ApplianceWrap
Interface: IApplianceWrap {8398f026-4add-4474-5bc3-2f9f2140b23e}

The research I have done says to run the fsck command on the volume - and I am not sure if I am trying to run it on the correct volume. Anyway - when I do - it says the disk is mounted and I am going to really corrupt the file system. So, like anyone else that doesn't know what they are doing, I say NO, and go back to the command prompt.

Can someone give me exact command I need to do to run this command - if it is the right thing to do?

Thanks everyone!

Lunix Ignorant

Sorry....

VBox version 5.0.8.r.103449

Guest Additions - yes

Now - I have another problem... the VM's say that they are inaccessible. See screen shot.

Could I have done this and unmounted the volume some how? HELP!

I really need to see the log file. Look in the folder that is shown and then in the logs folder and post the vbox-log as an attachment.

As for the file not found it looks like you have lost the mount to the actual location. That is something only you would know I am afraid. Does it exist and is it mounted?

df -h should show you, but the real question is how did you mount it in the first place? The location you picked for the main folder is not a default one and had to be created and changed by you.

Ok - see the attached results of your command - and then trying to cd to the directory......

I can not tell you how to use your host as it is simply not in the scope of this forum, but I would try to reboot the host and see if it rebuilds the raid and brings your share back. Other than that you would need to contact the host OS forum to answer these questions.

Ok - found out that we needed to mount a raid - and it is mounted now. The VM's are back! Crowd yells "yea".

Ok - now back to the original problem. Not being able to export the VM itself with the original error.

Any ideas on it?

Sorry about the confusion....

I will try and go get the log file if I can...

I'll wait until I see the log to continue.

Ok Perry - (hope that is your name) - I can't seem to find the right place to go to get the log file.

I have attached a new screen shot of your command - where do I need to go?

Since you have your guests mounted now just do what I said to begin with.
Post the guests log file ( as an attachment ). Right click on the guest in the Main Manager then click show log. Save and post as an attachment. Compress if it is too large to post.

Thank you, now I can proceed. Let's get back to the original question about not being able to export. Your error was "File not accessible or erroneous file contents" and the question is why? Was this because you had lost the mount? Hard to say but you could always try again to export. I would use the GUI and not the CLI since you are limited in Linux knowledge. Also I would make sure of two other things. 1) that the virtual CD/DVD has nothing mounted to it and 2) that any shared folders are removed. This usually causes a lot if issues with importing. I would also like to know the reason for the export. Reason being that most of the time a simpler way is to use the How to move guests created with => version 4.* and copy the entire folder to the new location.

Ok Perry - will check these things. The mount isn't a problem - it just isn't automatic when the server boots up.

I will let you know what I find soon.

Thanks again for being patient.
