virtualbox gets stuck when trying to find disk image

Hello, I'm trying to set up a virtual machine on a Debian GNU/Linux host to run windows 7. I've installed virtualbox and creating the virtual machine went ok but when it suggests I try to find a boot image or CD to boot from the virtualbox program halts until I kill it.
Is there any fix/way to get round this?
Thanks

VirtualBox does not provide the actual guest. You need to have the install media and own the rights to use same.

Yes I have these but when it opens the file browser to look for them it crashes!

Where did you get your VirtualBox from, and did you see any errors on install?
Also post the following:
- /var/log/vbox-install.log

I installed through apt, with no errors - I don't seem to have an install log however.
When it gets stuck on 'please choose a virtual optical disc file' the terminal says:
Qt WARNING: Object::connect: No such signal org::freedesktop::UPower::DeviceAdded(QString)
Qt WARNING: Object::connect: No such signal org::freedesktop::UPower::DeviceRemoved(QString)
I don't know if that's relevent

It sounds like you have installed the distros fork of VirtualBox and if that is what you did we do not support those. If you had installed the official version you would have the vbox-install.log and we could tell a little more about what is going on. At this point I do not know what to tell you to do other than to remove the one you have now and install the version from virtualbox.org or ask the distro how to proceed.
