Closing video hangs Linux Mint

Hi
I'm running Mint on as guest on Windows 10 host.
Nvidia gt960 video card.
I'm trying to play videos (mp4) in VLC and and the default media player.
When ever I open a video I can't put anything in front of the video and minimizing leaves the video open.
When I try to close it it causes Mint to hang and I have to Shutdown the VM.
