libvirt 1.3.5 on CentOS 7.2 with VirtualBox 5.0.20

Post by neubert »

Dear community,

I would like to use libvirt for remote control of VirtualBox 5.0.20 under CentOS 7.2 but I cannot connect:

Code: Select all

# virsh -c vbox:///system
error: failed to connect to the hypervisor
error: internal error: unable to initialize VirtualBox driver API
Here is the output of libvirtd:

Code: Select all

I have compiled libvirt 1.3.5 with vbox support:

Code: Select all

# virsh -V
Virsh command line tool of libvirt 1.3.5
See web site at http://libvirt.org/

Compiled with support for:
Hypervisors: QEMU/KVM LXC UML OpenVZ VMware VirtualBox Test
Networking: Remote Network Bridging Interface udev Nwfilter VirtualPort
Storage: Dir Filesystem SCSI Multipath iSCSI LVM
Miscellaneous: Daemon Nodedev SELinux Secrets Debug Modular
The problem is probably that I need a configuration file. But I thought that the configuration might be autogenerated from the running VirtualBox instance. Browsed the web for quite some time but did not get a clue.

Can please someone point me in the right direction?

Kind regards,
Boris

I'm guessing that the right bits don't exist. I suspect this only works with VirtualBox 4 and not with VirtualBox 5. You'll have to ask Oracle and CentOS engineers for an ETA for a fix. File a bug on CentOS and see what happens.

P.S. I'm getting the same thing on Ubuntu 16.04 and will file a bug there.

Thanks for the info. At least I am not alone here.

Could you please post a link to the bug you filed so that I can follow the development?

Cheers,
Boris
