Can't get a VM to run for more than a week or so on 5.0.16

Hi everyone,
I seem to have bad luck getting an Ubuntu 14.04 VM to run for more than a week or so. The host is Ubuntu 14.04 LTS brand new install of Vbox 5.0.16. Nothing funky.
If anyone has any suggestions please educate me. I hope it is not strange that both the host and guest are the same exact OS?
I end up with this lock up error:

You didn't provide any logs according to the forum's guidelines:
Minimum information needed for assistance. Please do.
But, a quick search for "nmi watchdog bug soft lockup" returns plenty of results with physical Ubuntu systems. Limiting the search to the VirtualBox forums, returns two results only, one of which contains a discussion about the issue:
Intermittent Hang/Crash, look for Spazio's posts.
Soft Lockup -- consistent outcome after 15 or so days

Hi,
The soft lockup CPU #1 is pretty consistent; the host is Ubuntu 14 LTS and the guest is also Ubuntu 14 LTS both 64 bit.
The VM came out of an OVA -- it is Graylog2 appliance 2.0
I have other VMs on the same host and they never soft lock up -- just this one? Is it the OVA to blame? Any suggestions?

I merged your latest post (19/08/2016) with the
exact same topic that you had opened two months ago (04/06/2016). It could be considered a duplicate post, and as such, it could simply be deleted
per forum rules, but since you added some new information (OVA source), I let it be.
Last time I asked for some information and pointed you to a related discussion. You never replied. Could you now? Also, is there a link for the OVA that you downloaded so we can try it out?

Thanks, yes here's a link to the OVA:
https://packages.graylog2.org/appliances/ova
In the mean time I moved the VM to ESXi and it has been working with no soft lock ups but it would be nice to know how to mitigate this issue as other are experiencing it too.
The info which you did point me (my bad for not acknowledging it) did not produce any usable results.
Thanks

I downloaded the OVA. Imported it. Launched just fine. Since you never provided any logs, I can't say what's wrong with your setup. But it would be moot since you moved to ESXi.

Thanks @socratis -- the issue occurs after several weeks so yours wouldn't fail right away but yes I am still evaluating whether the same issue would occur on ESXi since it takes weeks to receive definite results. If it does then it is clearly NOT the hypervisor so either way I will post a follow up in late September on this.

OK, fair enough. Final question. What makes you think that this is a VirtualBox bug and not a bug in greylog2 or in the underlying Ubuntu guest? It could even be a resource issue on the host, no? There's no smoking gun pointing to VirtualBox and you should consider all potential suspects. Tough one to replicate, given the fact that it takes weeks to reproduce...
