Resolution wont come out of 4:3

I am running virtualbox on ubuntu 16.04 and running a vm for windows 8.1. The resolution of the vm will only let me set anything from 1024x768 to 1600x1200. My native resolution of the host is 1280x800. Going into full screen changes nothing, and I tried unlimiting guest screen size. Also I am not in scaled mode. Anyone know the problem here? thanks!

Post the guests log file ( as an attachment ). Right click on the guest in the Main Manager then click show log. Save and post as an attachment. Compress if it is too large to post.

First you are running the repo version from Ubuntu which we don't support.

Code: Select all

00:00:01.104650 Package type: LINUX_64BITS_GENERIC (OSE)
Then you are booting from the CD/DVD

Code: Select all

00:00:04.476760 VMMDev: Guest Log: BIOS: Booting from CD-ROM...
Which means you have not installed the OS and that means you can not have installed the guest additions ( in the guest )
