Repair Ubuntu 14.04

Hello,
Ive scrolled through the linux guest pages, and im unable to find something that works.
My problem is im using Ubuntu 14.04 on virtual box (host system is 14.04 also)
I was doing an update and i didnt notice the power plug wasnt plugged in. The system powered down during the upgrade. All of this is on the Vbox machine.
Now when i attempt to load that VBox machine, i get system program error and a blue screen. I am unable to bring up terminal using cntrl alt t, no information for the system itself shows up(no menu bar on left, date time anything at top right) The Vbox info is there at the bottom, but nothing of the linux machine. I have some information i really dont wanna lose on that Vbox. Is there a way to repair? I dont have a snapshot to use as a rollback or anything.
Thanks for any information. I did search and scroll the forums, but nothing seems comparable.
