ftp server Help !!!

what I would like to do is make files on my host os, shareable with other computers on the network over ftp, so in other words a virtual ftp server that would share only files from the host os
I don't need the shares to be writable, read only is preferred
I have an ftp server setup in a Linux guest using the vsftpd for the server, and the guest is in bridged mode, I can access the ftp server from other machines on the network and even from machines over the internet just fine, except
the problem I'm running into is that I can only see files from the ftp server that is on the virtual guest
how would I go about making the host files accessible ? as if they were on the virtual server itself ?
