error installing Windows XP

Post by Brian H »

I am running Ubuntu 8.04 and have the latest virtualbox. When I tried to load Windows XP on to a virtual machine I got about 2/3 through, to the "installing Windows" step. It goes for about 2 minutes and then this error message lights up:

Code:

Error:SXS.Dll: Syntax error in manifest or policy file "D:\386\asms\1000\MSFT\WINDOWS\GDIPLUS\GDIPLUS.MAN" on line 4.

Error:Installation Failed: D:\I386\asms. Error Message: The request could not be preformed because of an I/O device error.

Fatal Error: One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed.

(end)

Does anyone know what it means or how to fix it? Please and thank you!

Possible bad disk image

I had a similar problem recently and I think that the CD XP image was bad. I used a different CD XP image and the problem went away.
