I have no idea what happens in the Windows guest. My only concern was the Linux host and VirtualBox. We need to wait for someone that actually uses Windows to help with these questions.
My knowledge of Windows is very limited these days since I stopped using it years ago.

Try to completely uninstall the SEP. What you did was to stop the front-end process, not the kernel drivers that are running at system startup and as Perry said, they might interfere with proper operations.

Also, if you've changed anything else (firewalls, programs, etc) try to revert them.

Hello,

I spent a long time trying to uninstall SEP and I failed. So sorry but it's very complicated.
What I did:
Stop all Symantec processes & services. So nothing is running at startup (and I do no longer have any symantec messages at startup)
Stop all services related to processes started at startup. I do no longer hava any program running at startup (adobe, virtual box gust additions, network oriented programs, VPN, ...)
This doesn't chnage the behavior. I do no longer have any connection.
