I installed Win 7 64 bit and I also installed the guest additions and the display and other things got better, but the max I can get is 1280x1024.

I found the preferences to set maximum size or just turn it off, but the virtual box driver doesn't have 1920x1080 or any widescreen options which is pretty much the standard of all monitors nowadays.

I would not use the preference to set this. Instead don't and use the host+F toggle to go in and out of full screen.

Turns out just going to Full screen mode seemed to make it go 1920x1080 or something else I twiddled did.
