Ubuntu 14.04.4 - WebRTC Video Freezes?

I have also posted this in the Host forum as I an not sure what forum is the best?

I am using VBox on a Windows 7 Pro i7/32 gig memory box. I run the guests in Bridged Mode.

So I have been playing with WebRTC, specifically the Kurento Media Server and also an app built by WebRTC Guru Muaz Khan at https://github.com/muaz-khan

I have been experiencing WebRTC video freezing. I can have a live video up and at random times, it freezes? Once this happens, I cannot
recover without rebooting the host. When I am in this freeze state, I reboot the guest and restart the server but I cannot access the web cam.
Exiting the guest results in the "shutting down the guest" message but it just sits there forever, not actually shutting it down.

The only way to recover from this is to restart my Host and bringing up Vbox from scratch. Very frustrating. The fact that it is happening with
two different apps leads me to believe it is a Vbox issue.

Any ideas how to troubleshoot this?

Thank,

Ray

Are you sure this is the right place too? It sounds like you have a Windows host and a Linux guest and not a Linux host.

Either way this is cross posting and one of them will need to go. Post the guests log file ( as an attachment ). Right click on the guest in the Main Manager then click show log. Save and post as an attachment. Compress if it is too large to post. We can then determine which to leave and or move this one to the proper location..

Opps. You are correct. Sorry about that.

As I am at work, I will post the log when I get home. Thanks,

Ray

Here is vbox.log.

I don't think the problem happened during this log. I will post the others.

In case more are coming: post one relevant and complete log. We don't need your complete life story! Note that the second log you provided is not complete. I assume you rebooted the host while the VM was running. Unfortunately that means that the second log doesn't tell us much.

So, I'll restrict myself to observations on the first log.
  • I see that you only have 12MB of graphics RAM assigned to the guest. I assume you're ignoring the warnings this must entail. Your host has bags of RAM available, so I'd increase VRAM to 128MB. This would cause general graphics problems and might well be the source of the video playback freeze.
  • I'd also give the guest 2 CPU cores (not more).
  • You have the Ubuntu fork Guest Additions installed. You should uninstall them and install the VirtualBox GAs, i.e. the ones we support here.
  • You seem to be having some kind of audio problem. I see several occurences of "Audio: Skipping to create input stream "[LUN#0] ac97.mc", as the host audio backend reached its maximum of concurrent audio input streams".

Thanks for the response. I had some live streaming up over night and there was no freezing? I don't get it.
Anyway, I will certainly increase the memory and CPU's and see how it goes. I noticed the graphics ram but didn't think it was an issue. Also, I did think about increasing the CPU's to two but never got around to doing that.

I believe the audio issue has something to do with the fact that I am streaming video/audio to multiple viewers in the same LAN, on the same host, in the same instance of FireFox. So I have one tab with the video/audio origination and multiple other tabs opened viewing the video/audio. Because of audio feedback, I have to mute the audio.

Is there a way to clear out the logs?

And I was looking into the VBox GAs but don't know where to get it from?

Thanks again.

Ray

Thanks again.

You can delete them, but there's no need. VirtualBox only keeps logs of the last 4 sessions (older ones are deleted automatically), and they are not that large. Recent versions also have the hardening log, but that's only kept for one session.
