I have a Windows XP guest under windows 10, I need to use it to run a software package that is quite old but the client uses it religiously.
The program direct under xp can see the directories and mapped drives. Long directory names appear as <shortened name>~
The guest os however the directories just do not appear at all.
Anyone know of a way to fix this?

Re: Older Apps running in XP Guest not able to see directories with long names
Where are these directories and files which it can or can't see? I.e. are we talking local or network folders?
Also, exactly how old are we talking, i.e. what was the OS originally targetted by the old software? Hint: if it's Win16 then these are only partially compatible with VirtualBox Guest Additions Shared Folders. The fix would be to configure true network shares on your host.
Or, you could just rename the folders?
