USB not working in Win7 x64 guest on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS host
I have dealt with this problem before but cannot seem to get USB working properly this time. I am using Virtualbox 5.0.16 r105871
I have:
installed the extension pack that matches my version
installed and mounted guest additions
added my user to the group "vboxusers" and rebooted host machine (even though a logout and back in should be sufficient)
enabled the USB controller in Virutalbox
right clicked on the USB in the lower right hand corner and checked the USB(s) I am trying to "see" in my Win7 guest
I am not sure where to go from here. Please someone direct me.
Thanks a million
Z

Post the guests log file ( as an attachment ). Right click on the guest in the Main Manager then click show log. Save and post as an attachment. Compress if it is too large to post.

Well, it seems fixed, more or less... I find it works if I switch to USB 2.0 and don't use a 3.0 slot on the motherboard. I thought 3.0 was pretty well supported but maybe it's not quite ready with my setup(?). I don't know.
Looks like 2 different logs?
Thanks

Windows 7 does not have native support for USB 3. You would need to install the Intel xHCI drivers.

Wait, I'm using an AMD platform..will Intel drivers help? I don't want to install drivers that aren't correct as I know how much of a problem that can cause sometimes... I am not seeing any AMD drivers available and the AMD autodetect tool doesn't see any supported AMD hardware even though it shows the AMD FX CPU.
I mean if I'm stuck with 2.0, so be it. I'm not uber worried about it. But it would be nice. Thank you for your help thus far PerryG

It is the guest that needs the driver and the xHCI platform is Intel’s. Never heard of anyone having an issue. That said I don't do Windows and I do only use Intel so the decision is yours.

Ok, I will set up a restore point and give it a shot, then report back. Thanks again
