Mouse Pointer Issues VB5.0.20 Debian 8 XFCE4

Post by apaton »

Hi All,

Linux Host - Oracle Linux 6.7 with Unbreakable Kernel
Linux Guest - Debian 8 with latest extensions installed

Since upgrading from VB5.0.14 to VB5.0.20 I found my mouse pointer is inaccurate. Its selects up and to the left consistently, in all applications (Terminal, Leafpad, LibreOffice, XFCE). An example would be selecting a word in a terminal with double click, would select a word from line above.
You could suggest this is a PICNIC/PEBKAC error, but I DON'T get the same behaviour when in full screen mode.

Any ideas ?

Many Thanks

Andy

I'm having this exact same problem - the mouse selects up and to the left of where it actually is on the screen.

Host: Windows 10
Guest: Kubuntu 16.04 with 5.0.20 guest additions

If I restart the VM the mouse works as normal. But after I save the machine state and reload it the mouse pointer exhibits the problem.

The same issue after upgrading to 5.0.20. Both host and guest are debian 9 stretch (kernel 4.5, XFCE4.12). Not always but It happens sometimes.
Another issue in VRDP: I am mostly using guest via VRDP (win7/mstsc) and noticed that now I have two mouse pointers - guest pointer is always a bit left and a bit higher (3-4 pixels) than hardware windows pointer.
Third issue (I think the root is the same): RCtrl+F works correctly (adopting screen size), but very slow - about 3 seconds delay between pressing and reaction.

some workarounds :
toggle fullscreen mode twice
switch display on console text, then back on graphical console ([Ctrl right]+1/[Ctrl right]+7)

I notice the issue happens when X screen-saver activates. You can trigger the issue with the xset utility :
xset s activate

Just adding to the "same here" list.

The workaround I found was the "toggle full screen" one, as mentioned.

The following bug report seems to be relevant: https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/15324

Followed the bug report and downloaded and installed from the testcase Guest-addition (VBoxGuestAdditions_5.0.21-107750.iso) and worked a treat.

Thanks for the info Andy. I installed the testcase VBoxGuestAdditions_5.0.21-107750.iso in my guest (still running VirtualBox 5.0.20) and the problem is gone.
