Windows 8 guest startup error

Hi,

We have a Windows 8 guest (running on a Mac) that refuses to boot

When I try to start a stopped VM it gets to a black screen and goes nowhere.

When I try to start a recent saved snapshot, it appears to resume and at the very end I get:

Failed to open a session for the virtual machine
Failed to load unit ‘vga’
(VERR_SSM_LOADED_TOO_MUCH

I was on version 5 and upgraded to the latest version.
Same errors.

I uninstalled the app and reinstalled and get the same errors

Any help is greatly appreciated!

That error is related to saved states, not snapshots - which is an entirely separate feature. You can get that error if you upgraded VirtualBox while a VM was in a saved state. Your only practical solution is to discard the saved state (right click on VM in manager).
