"Cannot open host device '/dev/ttyS0'"

Post by stagnette »

Hi,

I would like to configure VirtualBox so that it can handle a serial port but the virtual machine refuses to start when I try to enable the serial port (whereas it works when the serial port is disabled). Details: https://framadrive.org/index.php/s/iK2AADnrwZvnQq9
What can I do? :'(
Thanks

Lucas

VirtualBox 5.0.18
Host: Ubuntu 14.04
Virtual machine: Windows XP Pro

Port Number: COM1
Port Mode: Host Device
Path/Address: /dev/ttyS0

Not sure why you would open another topic for the same issue but the last suggestion was for you to ask the OS forum not here again.

@stagnette: Just to clarify, "OS forums" in this case means the Ubuntu forums, not the (VirtualBox issues with) Linux Hosts forum here. You don't any longer have a VirtualBox issue - I'm not sure you ever did - , and we are not necessarily experts in solving non-VirtualBox problems. The Ubuntu forums denizens should be able to advise you about Ubuntu device permissions.
