Preparing to leave Win7 -> XP Mode in VirtualBox

I have Windows 7 Pro, and am running an instance of XP Mode for an application that plays better XP than in Windows 7. I have disabled all network access to this box, so that it doesn't try to update drivers or programs, and minimizes its attack footprint for what is now an ancient operating system. I will be upgrading to Win10 in the next few months, and I've read that XP Mode simply doesn't exist as a Win10 option, so I'm preparing for the migration my moving my XP Mode into a VirtualBox guest OS.
I read a post on this forum that creating an "XP Mode Guest" is as simple as creating the XP Guest OS, and pointing the IDE controller to my .vhd (called "Windows XP Mode.vhd"). The resulting OS would be unactivated, which I could then use one of my many left-over XP licenses to fix that.
However, I seem to be stuck.
I select to "Choose existing disk" for my OS, and locate my "Windows XP Mode.vhd" file (a copy of the file, until I could be sure it worked 100%). It loads in the window with an exclamation mark in a yellow "yield" triangle. Hovering over this triangle, I get the following tooltip message:
<my file path>\Windows XP Mode.vhd
Type (Format): Normal (VHD)
Attached to: XP Mode
----------------------------
UUID {long GUID} of the medium '<my file path>\Windows XP Mode.vhd'
does not match the value {another loing GUID}
stored in the media registry ('C:\Users\Dan/.VirtualBox\VirtualBox.xml')
If I click OK, and try to start my guest OS, I get the same error, and the OS doesn't start.
I am running Oracle VM VirtualBox 5.0.18
