Shared folders between Ubuntu 16.04 host and Win 7

Post by leobap »

I installed the last version of virtualbox (5.018) in a ubuntu 16.04 host. The virtual machine runs a version of windows 7. However, I can't mount any shared folder, neither after installation of the guest extension pack. Neither the copy and paste function between host and guest is working. I tried to reinstall the guest extension, but the problem persists.

Is there any solution for this issue?

Post the guests log file ( as an attachment ). Right click on the guest in the Main Manager then click show log. Save and post as an attachment. Compress if it is too large to post.

You should remove the Ubuntu fork of VirtualBox and install the official version from virtualbox.org. More than likely this will fix all of you issues, but if not then post the new guest log file ( as an attachment ) as well as the following:

From the hosts terminal type VBoxManage showvminfo <VM Name> --details and post here. Replace <VM Name> with the actual name of the VM. Use " " if the name has a space in it.

Oh and since you are running this on Ubuntu 16.04 purge the install you have before you install and be sure to use dpkg to install so if there are any missing packages you can fix it by running apt-get install -f

I purged the ubuntu version of virtualbox and istalled the .deb downloaded from Oracle. The package was installed using the dpkg without problems and after the gest extension was installed too.

Unfortunately the problem persists. Following your suggestion the log file and VBoxManage result are in attachment.

Thanks for your help

This shows that the share is now working

Code: Select all

00:00:08.960324 SharedFolders host service: Adding host mapping
00:00:08.960332 Host path '/home/leobap/Documentos', map name 'Documentos', writable, automount=true, create_symlinks=false, missing=false
00:00:08.960491 SharedFolders host service: Adding host mapping
00:00:08.960498 Host path '/home/leobap/Downloads', map name 'Downloads', writable, automount=true, create_symlinks=false, missing=false
00:00:08.960619 SharedFolders host service: Adding host mapping
00:00:08.960626 Host path '/home/leobap/Dropbox', map name 'Dropbox', writable, automount=true, create_symlinks=false, missing=false
But this shows that the guest was not shut down and you are using the saved state.

Code: Select all

00:00:13.001882 HGCM: restoring [VBoxSharedFolders]
00:00:13.001882 HGCM: restoring [VBoxGuestControlSvc]
00:00:13.001882 HGCM: restoring [VBoxGuestPropSvc]
00:00:13.001882 HGCM: restoring [VBoxDragAndDropSvc]
00:00:13.001882 HGCM: restoring [VBoxSharedClipboard]
Reboot the guest and see if they actually show.

Unfortunately its not working after rebooting the guest machine or the entire system. Follow in attachment a print of my guest machine and the virtual box log.

Don't know what to tell you. See my screen shot below. E: is auto-mounted and T: is a manual mount. Both work as expected.
