USB problem after upgrading to 5.0.18
Hello,
I am running ubuntu 14.04 as host.
My vbox version was 4.3.12 and everything worked fine.
Now I decided to upgrade to 5.0.18.
Installed the matching extention pack.
I am part of the vboxusers group.
Everything worked fine with my USB devices in the past with version 4.3.12
After the upgrade I am can not see my USB devices anymore.
Some additional information:
When I start vbox and go to settings->usb and try to add a USB device, which is connected and visible to my host, it displays in grey <no device available>
Does anybody have an idea how to troubleshoot this issue?
I hope somebody can help me out and I will wait a couple of days.
In case I can not solve it I need to revert back to 4.3.12.
Thanks in advance

Post the results of the following from the hosts terminal:
- 1) id
2) VBoxManage list extpacks
3) VBoxManage --version

I select upload attachment Browse (select the file) when I press add the file nothing happens.
Quiet a lot of lines. So I guess pasting it in the post might not be the best option.

Try again and read closely. This usually means the file is too large. Compress it if that is the case.

Re: USB problem after upgrading to 5.0.18
I have done this. However will do it again and post the result.
Funny enough, I was searching everywhere for a solution but nothing else than the recommendations:
Install the right extpack and add your self to vboxusers no other helpful hints.
The last release i have used where my USB worked was 4.3.12 every other release afterwords did not work.
My first post was about the upgrade to 4.3.16 where I had the same problem and I also tried some other releases always the same issue.
From 4.3.12 to the consequent releases something has happened.
It is also interesting after reviewing many post in all sorts of forums that I seem to be the only one having this issue.
This forum is my "last resourt" if there is noboby having an idea I need to go back to 4.3.12.
I have the files stored on my disk. That works for sure.
Maybe then one day when I decide to make a clean install of the next ubuntu lts i will try again.

Re: USB problem after upgrading to 5.0.18
I am back now. No improvement.
Still the same issue.
Actually I am not giving up so easily. Somebody an idea how to contact the developers directly in order to do a deep dive? I am willing to support with any kind of information possible.
It can not be that I am the only person in the world having this issue.

Re: USB problem after upgrading to 5.0.18
Actually you are the first to report this issue with the new build. That and the fact that USB in a Linux host is always reliable. The only requirements are the extpack and user id.It can not be that I am the only person in the world having this issue.
You can report this to bugtracker and see what the DEVs have to say.

Re: USB problem after upgrading to 5.0.18
Here is an update. I got support with my ticket and was asked to execute the following command:
'sudo /var/lib/dpkg/info/virtualbox-5.0.postinst configure'
This was the magic command for me, now it works.
