Hello,

I use a ubuntu host an a virtualbox 4.3.36. My guest is a Windows 10 system. The problem is that the max. display resulution I can choose is 1280x1024. So I used the command:

VBoxManage setextradata VMNAME \"CustomVideoMode1" "1920x1080x16"

In the past that works an I made this entry in the *.vbox file. Everything was fine and I cold use higher resulutions on my windows 10.

But after some Umdates now this does not work any more. So what can I do? An guests here with the same Problem?

Greetings Nixdorf

Post the guests log file ( as an attachment ). Right click on the guest in the Main Manager then click show log. Save and post as an attachment. Compress if it is too large to post.

Code: Select all

00:00:00.201464 Package type: LINUX_64BITS_GENERIC (OSE)
You are using the Ubuntu fork of VirtualBox and you would need to ask them for help or remove theirs and install the official version from virtualbox.org

Hello,

now I changed to virtualbox.org. I made again this entry in the win10.vbox file: <ExtraDataItem name="CustomVideoMode1" value="1920x1080x32"/>

But I still cold not use the 1920x1080 Resolution in my windows10 Virtualbox.

Any Idea what I can do? The new Loglie is here in the atachments.

Greetings Nixdorf

Sure. Remove the entry about custom size and make sure that auto-resize is enabled. Then use the host+F toggle to go in and out of full screen.

Hello,

thanks for the tip, but auto-resize is no solution for me course the quality there not so good. The output of the display ist distorted.

I need to select a 1920x1080 Resolution in my windows guest system for a better quality.

Any ideas, what I can do?

Auto-resize is no different than going full screen. Maybe you are confusing scale mode which is horrible quality. I suggest you remove the custom hint and just use the host+F toggle to go in and out of full screen.
Anyway I have given you all I can with a Windows guest. Someone that actually uses it will need to continue since we have covered anything that could be caused by the host.
