Ok this may be a noob question but after i install virtual box with the virtualbox_1.6.2-31466_Ubuntu_hardy_i386.deb file it says everything ran ok but i cannot find out how to run it. THere is no icon in the applications menu. I originally tried the ubuntu add/remove virtualbox but it had the old 1.5 version which didn't work. Looking on the boards here they said to install the newest version found here on virtualbox.org and install.
Can you help me start htis program? thanks
Can't run virtual box after install on ubuntu 8.04, where is

Are you sure you installed it properly? You can check it by opening Synaptic Packet Manager and search for VirtualBox. If it is not listed there as installed, the installation failed somehow. Reinstall it, and make sure you run it as root. I've had it with a few programs that even though I was asked for my root password, the program did not install. Running the installer as root solved it. Easiest way is open a terminal, browse to the installer location using 'cd' and run 'sudo dpkg -i <packagename.deb>'.
If it is installed, run VirtualBox from a command line (either terminal or Alt+F2). It should be in the Apps list, but as I use Xfce and not GNome, I can only guess where it's actually located. In Xfce, it's located under System, where you can find Synaptic, and other system settings.

Hi, I am running the same version of Ubuntu and in my case, I have a virtualbox package in synaptic and the application showed up in the Applications >> System tools menu.
The launcher is just running "VirtualBox"
I did not run the installer as root but I remember I had to add my user to the vboxusers group.
Julien.
