Guest Additions vs Extensions

Post by DrTeeth »

Hi,

Could somebody tell me the difference between the VB Guest Additions and the VB extensions? I have only found the additions here http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/ and not on the VB site itself.

Thanks

DrT

This difference is explained in the User Manual. The Guest Additions is software which should be installed into the VirtualBox guest to make it work better with VirtualBox. The installation is not required but if you do it then you will experience additional features like automatic resize of the guest screen if you resize the VM window and a few others, see the User Manual. The Extension Pack is a complemental package to the VirtualBox base package which is installed on the host. The Extension Pack has a different license (closed-source) and adds certain features, for instance USB2/USB3 support and support for RDP.
