"Windows" is not enough to identify either host or guest. Please be specific.
Modern Windows (7 and later) ignore pings by default I believe. It should be harmless to enable it, since your PC (and therefore your VM) is presumably behind a NAT router, so it should never see Internet pings unless you open a router port.
