Converting to VHD in Windows 10

Post by Buffalosolja42 »

I am having an issue when I copy the virtualbox disk to vhd. When I do it doesn't have the changes made after the last snapshot. When using a Windows 8 laptop and placing virtualbox disk on my external it will work. I need the vm because I do all my personal finance items on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Why are you converting to VHD? The normal way to move data from a VM to another PC would be to write the data files to a shared folder.

In direct answer: if you want to clone a VM that uses snapshots, you clone the latest snapshot, not the base VDI/VHD. The result is a merged (flattened) disk containing everything up to the selected moment in time.

I was converting to VHD to use hyper-v temporarily. I use the clone option inside virtualbox on another pc so that I can have access to OS until the issue is resolved with Windows 10 builds. I didn't see the option in the virtual manager* maybe incorrect wording. It only gives me the option for the disk (no-snapshot options). But in reality the snapshot was taken before I made a change and I am not reverting so I would assume the whole disk would work.
