I can't download VirtualBox 64bit but my processor is 64bit

Post by joshisci »

Hi, I downloaded virtualbox from the original website, and I noticed I can't choose between 32bit and 64bit hosts when creating my virtual machines. When I download it again, it still only has 32bit available, I dont know how to fix it, because
I didnt use to have this problem before. I had windows 10 home and then I was able to create 64bit hosts, then I upgraded to Pro and now I cant

any help is very appreciated

1) 64-bit guests need hardware-virtualzation enabled in the hosts bios.
2) when creating the 64-bit guest you must select 64-bit in General -> Basic -> version.
3) If running Windows as host you must make sure hyper-v or xp mode is not enabled on the host. MS does not play well and wants it all.

If it worked before and stopped when you upgraded to Win10 Pro then you almost certainly have Hyper-v enabled. It needs to be disabled, then you must reboot the PC from power down.
