Adding existing guests, GUI machine menu missing VB5

Post by lostwf »

Hi All,

How do you add an existing VB guest to and Ubuntu 14.04 host running VB5? The issue is trying to add my existing VB guests, all that I could find is the VbManage command, is this the answer for Ubuntu VB5? VB4 had the File, Machine and Help menu items https://www.virtualbox.org/attachment/w ... /gnome.png.

I am not sure how to search for this issue, I have tried Google and the forum and neither have provided me any possible options. To add an existing Guest you select Machine and Add, in Ubuntu 14.04 with VB5 there is no longer a machine menu item. I have checked Frank's screen shot on Ubuntu and I have the same as his from https://www.virtualbox.org/attachment/w ... _14.04.png

I have installed virtualbox-5.0_5.0.14-105127~Ubuntu~trusty_amd64.deb from the website via the Software Centre. I can create a new VB guest without any issues.

Any suggestions are welcome

Thank you for reading the post

Your problem consists of two issues.
  • 1) you are using the Ubuntu fork which we do not support here.
    2) your menu items that are missing from the title bar are by design. Not VirtualBox design but Ubuntu design. They move all menu items to their top panel.
