Hi,
I'd like to install Windows 10 in a VM on my Ubuntu 15.10 host. I have a USB stick prepared with Microsoft's Media Creation Tool...but is it possible at all to boot from a USB device for installation purposes?

VirtualBox does not support booting from USB.

You can search for "installing an OS from usb in virtualbox" and find some ways but they are not supported.

I have Ubuntu on a HP BeatsAudio. It has no CD/DVD drive. My son purchased Windows 10 for me to run in Virtual Box [His recommendation] It came on a bootable USB stick. I have little choice except to try Vine[sp?]
Guess CD/DVD drive-less laptops are a reality

.
I will try report this as a bug, if allowed

Cannot find a way of reporting as a bug or feature request. Hope one of the programmers reads this.

It's only a bug if it was supposed to work and fails. It has never been a supported feature so no bug. You can however submit a feature request at
bugtracker but I assure you they already know about it so search first and add your comment instead of creating a new ticket.
Note: If you have the key you can always download the install ISO and attach it to the virtual CD/DVD.

Thank you. Be glad to search bug tracker and add an appropriate version of my comment. The "does not support" comment should have clicked, the bug part was unintentional. Will keep bugtracker in mind. I assume I missed a reference to it while searching.
Thanks again.
