Windows update fail

Windows 8.1 guest took it upon itself to update, screen said updating 154 files and took forever.

Then it said it "couldn't complete updates, undoing changes, don't turn off your computer". It is hung up on this screen. If I power off the virtual machine, it comes back to this same screen.

OS 10.10.5
virtual box 5.0.14
windows 8.1

I have some work on there that I would like to recover, is there any path to that?

From your description I would say you need to contact MS and see what you can do as it really has nothing to do with VirtualBox.

However if all else fails you should be able to mount the VDI to a different guest as a second drive and recover data.

Cool, thx. Mayhap's I will be back if MS can't help, for I am but a simple user, and I may not be able to figure out that mounting process after making the 2nd guest. Cheers.
