Guest on Host-only adapter does not get an ipv4 address

Hi. I have 3 guests one of which does not get an ipv4 address. What could be the cause of this? I use standard settings.

The usual reason would be an inexperienced user had been messing with the network settings in the guest OS, e.g. choosing static/manual IP addressing. Another possibility is that the VM is cloned, and the MAC address and/or machine name wasn't changed.

Thanks for your reply.
I have not changed any settings. I have even tried removing the Host-only adapter and adding it again, to make sure it used default settings. Cloned, as in the fact that i downloaded an "image" specific for virtualbox, with no installation required? I did that. Machine name within the OS or in virtualbox settings? I have tried refreshing the mac address from network setting in virtualbox.

Cloned, as in taking a VM on the current host and making a duplicate of it. Equivalently, installing the same third-party-prepared VM more than once without making them different.
There is no machine name in the VirtualBox settings: I am of course referring to the guests network machine name: presumably the networking context of my comments is clear from the topic title, and I shouldn't need to belabor the fact on every post.

My bad. I am quite new to this, so i just wanted to make sure.
I actually think that I have installed the same third-party VM twice. It might be worth mentioning that on the same guest there is a NAT adapter which pulls an IPV4 address just fine. I have now tried changing the hostname in the guest with no difference.

The topic title says host-only. NAT has different rules entirely, for example it can't possibly conflict with other VMs. NAT network would be different again.
