To activate or not?

Post by nics »

I've installed win7 pro 64bit as a guest under my hosts which is same, downloaded the iso from MS and registered it with my own dvd key .
All running very nicely and working 100%.
My problem is "You must activate Windows within xx days to continue using all Windows features"
I've tried everything but to no avail.

What features will fall away after this period?

Did "everything" include activating the Windows 7 installation in the VM? Because being in a VM doesn't change the need to activate.

Anyway, you need to ask Microsoft your questions. We are not in a position to give definitive answers here on Microsoft activation or licensing policy.

This is not a VirtualBox question. If you installed your one Win7 license on any PC then the same issue would arise.

Thanks mpack, I accept that the licensing policy is off topic but the knowledge base here quite amazing. I'll check with MS now.

Yes the "everything" activating via the VM and the responses include - "OEM key not present in firmware" and "This product key is being used on another PC. Please try a different key."
Seems I'll have to purchase an additional DVD.
