Hello,

I an new to VB. I have successfully installed it and Windows 8.1. In fact, I do it only for one reason - zovo.co backup does not support Linux.

I was able to back up my Photos from an external drive. When I tried to backup from my HDD partition, I got the following message: 'The item you have selected is not valid, please ensure you have selected a folder on your local drive.'

Please help and explain to e newbie.

It sounds like you haven't understood that a VM has no access to host drives. You can access USB drives and shared folders. If all your photos are in one host folder then you share that folder with the guest. Simple shared folders requies the Guest Additions, so see Chapter 4: Guest Additions, plus 3.11: Configuring Guest Machines: Shared Folders.

mpack, you are right - I have not understood that a VM has no access to host drives!

But I have shared the whole partition which is visible in Windows and the above-mentioned error occurs when I try to choose it.

That is an astonishingly bad idea, unless you don't mind malware in the guest having access to your entire host drive.

I'm afraid I can't help you regarding error messages from software running inside a guest. You would have to ask whomever supports that software what the error means.
