bridged connection not working after host ip change

Post by obould »

Hello

I successfully used virtualbox on debian8 (cinnamon desktop). In VB I installed a Windows 8.1 client using a bridged connection to the eth0 host NIC (no wireless). Both host and vm get an IP over dhcp.
Today my office moved to another building within another vlan. My host successfully receives an IP over dhcp in the new range but the VM doesn't get an IP address anymore. I manually configured the IP/SN/DG/DNS on the VM but to no avail. It seems the VM does not recognizes my host's NIC since the change. NAT seems to work but I really need the bridged option.

Can anybody give me advice or a possible solution?

Beste regards,

Ask your network administrators it they still allow more than one machine / MAC address per port.

Thanks, problem solved. The port on the new switch didn't allow multiple mac addresses per port. I changed this setting and my VM successfully receives an IP address.
