Can we have more than 1 Gbps speed adapters in the VMs or is there any way to increase the bandwidth in virtualbox ? I have 2 VMs connected with each other but I need more link speed say 8 Gbps.

P.S: I have Ubuntu 14.04 in the host as well as the two guest VMs.

You increase the network bandwidth in VirtualBox by buying faster host NICs. There is nothing in the VM to throttle NIC performance.
