I just installed virtualbox Windows XP on my Sony laptop running Mandriva 2008, everything works fine, but when I try to update the video driver for the Nvidia, the nvidia installer cannot find the video card, any idea?

yes, read the user manual an learn, what a virtual machine really is.
even its not the builtin hardware.

While you are right that you need to load the NVIDIA drivers, the issue is where you install them. With a virtual machine, you'll ALWAYS have the standard VGA driver installed because that's how most virtual machine programs emulate display drivers. Unfortunately, in the case of vista, it means that you'll not be able to see the Aero desktop. (BTW if anyone knows anything to the contrary, I'd love to be able to Aero my virtual vista)
That being said, you DO need to install the appropriate NVIDIA drivers on your Linux system and it WILL make a difference in the performance of your virtual machine (and your linux machine). The reason is that in the case of specialized cards, drivers can 'unlock' advanced features in your graphics card such as additional memory and advanced 3d rendering. You'll not notice any change in hardware on the virual machine, but your system as a whole will run faster when the correct driver for your hardware is installed.
You can find the latest linux drivers for most NVIDIA products at their website. They also provide a great deal of specialized support for linux environments.

If you're having problems with your Host system that is not related to VB, please go to a different forum. This forum is for problems with VB, not the OS it runs on.
