Trouble with internet on W2K

Post by elc79 »

Hi, i want to see this OS so i tried it in virtual box, W2K SP4, at the beginning without any update the IE5 dont give me a chance to navigate on any microsoft site but making an ipconfig the site always answers, no problem, i installed IE6 and the trouble became worse because i can't navigate even in google. I don't know what to do, ipconfig always answers the petitions, internet is working well outside virtualbox, so i need any help.

IE6 is a very old browser. Have you tried Firefox or some other modern browser?

It's ok, i was able to install the last version of Firefox compatible with W2K, Version 12 and works well. But now the problem it's how to run Windows Update, on IE has problems of connection as happens with a lot of sites, but Windows Update only works with IE, any way to update W2K with official Microsoft services or i have to run alternatives as Wsusoffline?

I'm not sure why you're trying to use Windows Update at all. AIUI Win2K support was ended a least a decade ago, and all Win2K updates were rolled up into a final service pack - so just download and install the service pack.

Not quite true, Windows 2000 support ended in July 2010, however there was a (3rd party) service pack 5 released with all updates through to March 2006.
