Hey everybody!
I'm studying networking and system administration so I want to set up a virtual envo to start *breaking things*

So I have the Windows 10 OS. Now I'm trying to find out how to go about virtualizing Server 2012 and then using hyper-v on the virtual server 2012 to add more virtual machines and build a virtual network to tamper with.

First of all, what is the difference between the vmware virtualbox and workstation? I... don't... geddit. I'm thick so plz explain

For all intend and purposes, they achieve the same base result - create a virtual machine and run an OS in it.
This is a VirtualBox forum, so maybe you should target your questions to VirtualBox. A good starting point is the User Manual.

If you use VirtualBox, the guest Windows Server will not run Hyper-V. Running a vm (called nested virtualization) is not supported. Hyper-V needs to run on the host machine, not a vm. (Microsoft is experimenting with nested virtualization for Windows Server 2016 - ie for server 2016 vm running under Hyper-V on 2016).

With vmware it might run (slowly).

You can run Hyper-V in Windows 10 if you have Pro or Enterprise (not the standard edition) and your hardware has the necessary features. (It does not support all of the options available in the server version). Check the Microsoft Technet Windows 10 Virtualization forum.
