Hey everyone, i've been at this for a few days.
Long story short, i've been trying to get D3D from the Guest Additions installed on my VM but without the additions software being installed.
Why? Well, i'm planning on using the VM as a sandbox for a game which requires D3D, i installed it D3D using Guest Additions, and game boots up fine until GameGuard kicks in and shuts it down, GameGuard is software that runs along side the game to prevent hacks being used, i assume it monitors what's running.
I'm 95% sure that the additions is what's causing GG to shut the game down, when I remove Guest additions (also removes D3D) the game starts OK and GG stays quiet, but then get an error from the game that it requires D3D. When D3D is installed, as well as Additions, game starts fine and GG kills it showing a 114 error which means it found a potential "cheat". This is a common issue with firewalls and ant-virus software, my VM has no AV software and i've disabled the Firewall. The only programs installed is the game and Additions. Hence, i think additions GG is spooked by additions.
So, i noticed you can extract the drivers from additions, which i did, my OS is x64 so i extracted from the *-amd64.exe and got the .dll's i installed wmmd by going to device manager selecting display, selecting the driver, choosing update and using the "i will choose a file" and selecting the *.inf file in the wmmd folder. This installed successfully, i restarted the machine and went to check the DX settings, went to dxdiag and checked the display, 2D is enabled but 3D is still disabled.
Did i do something wrong, am i missing something? Am i trying to do something impossible? Is there an alternative, such as finding the windows update which is responsible and installing it?
Would love some input.
Thank you in advanced.
