Secured Web Pages not opening in browser

I have been looking through the forums to see if someone has dealt with this but could not find a solution, so I am hoping that someone perhaps point me to a solution.
I am running Windows10 pro 64bit on a Surface Book and setup a Win XP Pro 32bit SP2 on virtual box (current version 5.0.14r105127).

I can browse the web through the Windows Explorer, can go to Amazon, MSN site and others. But I cannot get to secured web pages. When I try to go to Google Chrome download, I get a message, "The page could not be displayed" and instructs to adjust internet options. I looked but cannot see what is wrong with them.
Likewise, if I try to perform a Windows Update, same message pops that page could not be displayed.

I have Win XP Pro (virtual) running in older version of Virtual Box, on Windows 7 pro 64bit desktop pc. All settings for the virtualization look the same, yet everything works on that computer but not on Win10 laptop.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you using IE6 in the guest? And you don't think that perhaps using a 13yr old browser might be affecting things?

If you can't download a modern browser from inside the guest then download it on the host and put in in a shared folder.

Thank you for the reply Mpak. It looks like Firefox and Chrome works (though Chrome is dropping support soon for XP and Vista). Windows Explorer is toast, I updated to ie7 had issues with ie8. I cannot get to Microsoft web pages with ie7 so Windows Update will not work. I was hoping to get SP3 out of it. But it seems like its really over, rip xp...

I have some older applications for automotive diagnostic applications that are not supported on Windows past XP. So it looks like I have to hold on tight to my older Virtualizations which are working and somehow make an image of them to be able to clone if need arises.

Back to reading instructions on how to which is the best format option to save the image.

Thank you again...

Firefox works perfectly well in XP, though actually I've more recently been using the "Pale Moon" fork of Firefox since the latter seem to be too concerned with following UI fashion bubbles.
