Choppy video and slows everything to a crawl

Post by Ordep81 »

Did a fresh install of 14.04 on virtualbox and installed guest additions. When watching videos from youtube or other sites they run very choppy and brings the whole system down to a crawl. I did the ubuntu-restricted-extras for the codecs. I Have 256mb video ram allocated in vbox settings, 5gb of system ram allocated to this guest machine as well. I do have 3d acceleration enabled. Anything that I should take a look at?

Please post the VM log file. With the VM fully shut down, right click and "Show Log" in the GUI, save "VBox.log" to a zip, and attach the zip here.

Try uninstalling the Ubuntu fork GAs you currently have installed, and install the VirtualBox GAs.

Plus it doesn't help that you are using 4.3.36_Ubuntu GAs on 4.2.16 VirtualBox. It is ok to use GAs that are older than the software, but not newer. The GAs API is not intended to be forward compatible.

Any good reason you're using such an old version of VirtualBox? 4.2.16 is 3 years old.

Is there a way to remove and install the correct guest additions from the terminal? I was getting an error when trying to install guest additions from disc. Yes the reason that im using 4.2.16 is that any version that is later than this simply will not boot up any version of ubuntu that I try to install, all in this thread viewtopic.php?f=3&t=76329
