XP Pro VM Became Inaccessible

I installed VirtualBox with Windows 7 as the host and Windows XP Pro as the guest. Then I started the process of registering my USB devices with VirtualBox.
I clicked on each device to register it. Then I clicked on Start and my XP Pro desktop appeared with several messages:
- in middle of screen was an VB error message stating that the USB external drive failed to attach
- on lower right taskbar it stated that my device was ready to use and that the device driver software had been installed correctly (I don't know which device they are talking about)
- in upper left corner of screen was the 'Welcome to Found New H/W Wizard'
Unfortunately, my computer then froze up. I couldn't work the mouse or the keyboard. The hourglass was frozen on the screen. The only way I could regain control of my computer was to physically turn it off/on using the switch on the tower. When the system booted back up, I saw that my VM had become inaccessible.
Before I started this registration, all of my USB devices were working fine in Win 7. My wireless USB mouse and my wired USB keyboard were also working in my virtual XP Pro. I could move back and forth from the XP desktop to the Win 7 desktop, and my mouse and keyboard worked fine in both places. So I'm wondering if maybe I should not have registered these two devices with VB, since they were already working there.
Will I now need to start the entire VM creation process again, or is there a way to salvage my previous XP Pro VM that is now inaccessible?
Thanks in advance..........
