I installed virtual box 5.0.14 and the extension packs and when i go to open either file it sits and spins a few seconds and does nothing. Files do not open. I am running this on Windows 10. 64 bit. Any suggestions?

Packs plural? What exactly did you install, and how did you install the extension pack (feature plugins essentially) if the software they're a plugin for wouldn't run?

I installed virtual 5.0 and it ran through the installation and out it on my desktop. It won't open. I downloaded 1 pack , are there more than 1? It does not run

The bold & underlined parts could show the reason for wondering how many packs you installed. Only you can tell us if there were more than one.

What exactly are the names of the files you are trying to run? Post the exact names, please.

These are the files I ran

Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-5.0.14-105127.vbox-extpack

virtualbox/5.0.14/VirtualBox-5.0.14-105127-Win.exe

OK. "VirtualBox-5.0.14-105127-Win.exe" needs to be run first. This is the Virtualbox installer. Log in on your normal account. Right-click the installer file and choose "Run As Administrator" from the pop-up menu. (DO NOT log off then log back in as Administrator - Virtualbox won't work when you log in again on your normal account.)

"Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-5.0.14-105127.vbox-extpack" is the extension pack. You must install Virtualbox first to get this file to install.

See the manual, section 1.5 for installation instructions. See the manual first for using Virtualbox as well, then ask any questions you have here that the manual doesn't cover.

I Understand and that's what I did. VB won't open. It spins a few seconds and then stops. I'll uninstall and reboot and try again

Can you install other programs? Try a different .exe installer for a different program. If other .exe installers won't run, try running the Virtualbox installer or other .exe installers on a different account as a test. If the installer runs there, then your usual log-on account is bad.

Interesting ..... Some exe files will install while others won't. I just upgraded to windows 10 from 8.1

May be a windows 10 issue?

That's a good indication something did not work right in the upgrade.
If you have a Windows 8.1 product key either on a sticker or in the BIOS of the PC you can do a fresh install of Windows 10, not an update, and it will activate using the 8.1 key.
Since you just upgraded it might be a good time to just do it again fresh.

Did the "other account" test work?

On the other hand, maybe everything is working and the problems aren't with the host OS. (I updated my Windows 7 laptop to 10 and everything including Virtualbox works.)

No errors at all. I double click on the icon. My mouse spins a few seconds and nothing

Just a spinning mouse. Hmm, rather a puzzle. Do you see anything in the Event Viewer?

If some exe's install and others don't, sounds like a host OS issue. You'll need to gather some info on what is going on to help us troubleshoot. May need to hit up Microsoft for some help on finding out what is happening when you try to open these exe's and Virtualbox..

Duh, forgot about event viewer. Have to run out for a few and will check when I return. Thanks for hanging in there
