Failed to start vboxadd-service

Post by rossoreed »

When I start Debian 8 in my Windows client, I see a message [FAILED] Failed to start vboxadd.service

If I run systemctl status vboxadd-service.service I get;

vboxadd-service.service
Loaded: loaded (/opt/VBoxGuestAdditions-5.0.12/init/vboxadd-service; enabled)
Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Wed 2016-02-17 09:58:16 GMT; 4min 4s ago
Process: 746 ExecStart=/opt/VBoxGuestAdditions-5.0.12/init/vboxadd-service start (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)
Feb 17 09:58:16 debian vboxadd-service[746]: Starting VirtualBox Guest Addition service VirtualBox Additions module not loaded!
Feb 17 09:58:16 debian systemd[1]: vboxadd-service.service: control process exited, code=exited status=1
Feb 17 09:58:16 debian systemd[1]: Failed to start vboxadd-service.service.
Feb 17 09:58:16 debian systemd[1]: Unit vboxadd-service.service entered failed state.

Could anyone advise please (in simple terms!!) what I need to do to correct this.

Please choose an appropriate forum for your posts! For example, the "Windows Hosts" forum is unlikely to be the best place to find Linux Guests expertise.

Topic moved to "Linux Guests".

If you need to continue this conversation then post a VM log file. With the VM fully shut down, right click it in GUI. Select "Show Log" and save "VBox.log" (ONLY) to a zip file. Attach the zip here.
