Im using Virtual Box: Version 5.0.14 r105127

I have recently downloaded the .ISO of Windows Server 2012 (Evaluation) from the official site. When I chose the .ISO I get the following error:

Failed to open the disk image file C:\Users\*****\Desktop\9600.17050.WINBLUE_REFRESH.140317-1640_X64FRE_SERVER_EVAL_EN-US-IR3_SSS_X64FREE_EN-US_DV9.ISO.

Could not get the storage format of the medium 'C:\Users\#####\Desktop\9600.17050.WINBLUE_REFRESH.140317-1640_X64FRE_SERVER_EVAL_EN-US-IR3_SSS_X64FREE_EN-US_DV9.ISO' (VERR_NOT_SUPPORTED).

The error message most probably refers to a corrupt ISO file.

A Google search for "9600.17050.WINBLUE_REFRESH.140317-1640_X64FRE_SERVER_EVAL_EN-US-IR3_SSS_X64FREE_EN-US_DV9.ISO" comes back with a bunch of results that have the exact same problem as you. It seems that there is a general problem with that specific download. Can't verify it, I don't want to subscribe to MSDN (even if I could).

Try the Windows Server 2012 R2 evaluation version instead. I had no problems with it.

Sorry about that. 9600 is the R2 version. I can only suggest that you download it again. As I said, I had no problems with it and have it running under both VirtualBox on Windows 10 and Hyper-V on Server 2016 TP4 (on different hosts).

You could also try the trial version of 2016 TP4.
