Possible to disable the "restore" toolbar button?

Post by cremor »

99% of the time I'm using my virtual machines in full screen mode. Therefore the minimise button in the toolbar is important for me. But right next to it is the restore button which disables full screen mode and resizes the guest. I hate it when I click that restore button on accident since many Windows programs in the guest then have different window sizes or locations, even after returning into full screen mode.

I know that there is a part of the VM settings where I can disable some toolbar menu items. But it seems like those toolbar buttons are not configurable. Is there any other way to disable or remove the "restore" toolbar button?

I don't think there is such a switch. But there is the "Auto-Resize Guest Display" setting. If you uncheck that setting, the guest display will stay at the resolution it is at when you uncheck it, and will not change no matter what size the guest window is.

Make the guest full-screen and uncheck "Auto-Resize Guest Display". The guest will stay the full screen size even if the window is "restored".

Good idea, but it seems like this option is bugged. If I uncheck it and then restore the VirtualBox window, only one of my two fullscreen displays stays at the same size. The second one still gets resized to window size. But it won't get resized to full screen when going back into full screen.

Seems like someone found the same problem concerning the "Auto-Resize Guest Display" bug: https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/15165
